SPRING 2009 UPDATES, LECTURERS I & II            

Lee Brooks, Lecturer II, published Novlets, 67 Sonnets (Legal Studies Forum, 2009) and  two sonnets in The Iowa Review, 39.1 (Spring 2009). Prof. Brooks also attended the Bear River Writer's Conference in May 2009.

Paul Buczkowski, Lecturer II, participated in a year-long series of cross- institutional, cross-disciplinary "On Course" seminars for university educators seeking innovative ways to help students achieve greater academic success.

Thom Foy, Lecturer II, attended a Michigan Writing Centers Association Conference at Madonna University in October 2008, along with two undergraduate Writing Center consultants.

Marjorie Lynn, Lecturer II, served on the LEO Professional Development Funds and LEO Communications Committees, in addition to serving as LEO steward. Prof. Lynn also scored English Literature AP exams for the College Board and participated in Teach Tech sessions in Ann Arbor, May 2009.

Charlie Meyers, Lecturer II, attended the Institute of General Semantics conference “Creating the Future” in New York, November 2008. Prof. Meyers also coordinated a film competition for Haven, the Pontiac women's shelter.

In November 2008, Lecturers I PF Potvin and Anne-Marie Yerks attended the Association of Writers & Creative Writing Programs conference in Chicago.

During winter 2009 Joann Riley, Lecturer I, presented two workshops for the UM-Dearborn Department of Human Resources as part of its employee training program, and was involved in UM-Dearborn's EverGreen Team's discussions of sustainable development concerns. Michael Peacock (EverGreen Team) and Orin Gelderloos (Environmental Interpretive Center/Student Environmental Association Faculty Sponsor) attended Prof. Riley’s COMP 270 students’ presentations of proposals for sustainable development projects on UM-Dearborn's campus. Prof. Riley  also assisted full-time faculty in developing the syllabus for a new writing course for pre-management students.

In June 2009, Lecturers I Kristi Stewart and Anne-Marie Yerks each attended a one-day session of Michigan State University’s Summer Institute in Composition & Rhetoric
