Writing Center

Students:

Are you looking for a place to bounce your ideas off peers who care about your writing?  Are you unsure about whether or not your argument is effective, or if your draft stresses the points you'd like it to?  Do you want space to sit down and research, brainstorm, outline, or just plain write?  Come to the Writing Center and get to know peer consultants who want to help you become a more effective and confident writer and researcher — no matter your field of study or expertise.

The University of Michigan – Dearborn Writing Center, with locations in 3035 CASL Building, 1170 SSB, and 138 FCN is home to a number of resources. Undergraduate and graduate peer consultants, who receive regular preparation and experience in the tutoring of writing, can provide extra sets of eyes and ears for students working on research and writing projects.  The Writing Center’s reference materials also can help with getting started, organizing, drafting and revising your writing and research projects.

Faculty:

The Writing Center offers resources for faculty as well, including appointments for consultants to come to your classroom or host your class at the center; opportunities for you to collaborate with us by providing us with information about your classes (e.g., details about assignments, model papers, rubrics, etc.); and opportunities for your students to work with us as they revise writing projects while taking into account your written feedback.

In addition, Writing Center faculty consultants are available to assist you in integrating writing-to-learn strategies in your courses, in ways that are pedagogically sound yet practically manageable.  And our reference materials focused on writing pedagogy and writing in the disciplines can be useful as you explore new ways to help students improve their familiarity with disciplinary conventions, discourses, and genres.
