Frequent issues:
- Login: The most common problem students encounter with CTools is accessing the site. You need to use your Uniqname (the portion of your umd email address before the '@' symbol and your Kerberos Password (this may not be the same as your email password). Go here for more information.
- No Course Tab: If you have successfully logged in to CTools and you do not see your course tab appear at the top, there are two possible reasons: (1) There is a time-delay between our enrollment (Banner) computer system's acceptance of your registration and Ann Arbor's CTools computer system recognizing the enrollment. It can take 48 hours for students to appear on the CTools roster. (2) You have enrolled in many courses, perhaps over multiple semesters, and the tabs for all of them will not fit across the top of the CTools screen. Check the "drop down box" that says "-more-". You shoud find your course listed there.
- Email from CTools: If you can access CTools but you are not receiving emails from the instructor or email regarding 'Announcements', you may need to link or "align" your email account with the CTools system. Instructions for this are available on the next page.
- Access to Resources: Occasionally, CTools will experience site difficulties or require site maintenance. If you are in a class that requires audio or video lectures that are on the CTools site, you should download those to your local computer, if possible, at the start of the term. This way you will have them available even if there are problems with the network. If you do not have broadband (high speed) Internet service, you may need to find an alternative computer to access the course materials. Some students have found it necessary to access course materials from on campus labs or from local libraries.
- Grades Not Posted: If you are in a course that uses the 'Gradebook' feature to show grades, the amount of time it takes for grades to show up can vary. Tests proctored by CASL ONLINE are sent to the instructor to grade. It may take a week or more for the instructor to grade them and to post grades. If you are worried about the amount of time that has passed, you may contact your instructor.
