University IDs
Understanding Them and...
Using the correct one in the right spot is important.
This page will help you understand what each id is all about and the importance of certain ones - MCARD and Kerberos - for online learning through CASL Online. Please read this page carefully.
MCARD
During your first term as a University of Michigan-Dearborn student or employee, you receive a University of Michigan-Dearborn ID card (MCard). The front of the card will contain a Card # (16 digits) and a UMID # (University of Michigan ID). This number is 8 significant digits of the complete 16 digits and is underlined and follows the acronyn UMID #. The back of the card contains a barcode with a different set of 14 digits used by the UM-Dearborn Mardigian Library for on-site circulation purposes and other campus services.
Your UMID is your major identification number and is used by the UM-Dearborn Mardigian Library to authenticate your access to online full-text resources offered by the library. When accessing full-text resources from off-campus you will be asked to authenticate access with your name and the UMID. This information is important to know for many online courses.
More information on UM-D ID cards can be found on the UM-D website.
UM Uniqname and Kerberos Password
There is an invisible line that separates UM-Ann Arbor and UM-Dearborn computer systems. These systems, in most cases, are not the same systems. However, UM-Dearborn students, staff, and faculty do use some of the Ann Arbor systems, and CTools is one of those systems. CTools is the course management system used for Dearborn - CASL online courses.
All Dearborn students, staff, and faculty have an email id and password. They also have a UM Uniqname and Kerberos Password for identification on some Ann Arbor computer systems. These two id's and passwords may or may not be the same. Therefore, you must know your Uniqname and Kerberos password to use CTools for your CASL online courses.
Students who know their email password can reset their Kerberos Passwords on-line at http://directory.umd.umich.edu by clicking on MY ACCOUNT, authenticating with their email password, then choosing Password from the menu on the left. This can als be done from a password reset terminals, available in the lab in the Mardigian Library, the CW lab, and in labs in the School of Education and School of Management.
