Center for Math Education
The Center for Mathematics Education is dedicated to improving the quality of preparation for prospective teachers and making continuous professional development available to current teachers. Thanks to the efforts of faculty and staff, the center is meeting its goal of being a primary resource center for teachers and schools, and creating exemplary models of teacher education.
For graduate students, the Center focuses on providing a Specialty in Middle Grades Mathematics as part of the Master of Arts in Education degree. For undergraduates, the Center partners with school districts to provide practical teaching experiences and seeks to increase the number of students graduating with endorsements in mathematics on elementary or secondary teaching certificates. For school districts, the Center supports the professional development of classroom teachers through on-site graduate credit courses that emphasize a deeper understanding of the mathematics they teach, with a particular emphasis on the mathematics in reform curricula.
