About Us

Ann Phillips, Administrative Assistant Senior

Ann provides administrative support for the CASL Online office. In addition to assisting staff members, she is responsible for managing the office, supports online student and online faculty, maintains the office data and proctoring. She is also the liaison for out-of-state students. Ann holds a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology, psychology and sociology from the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Scott Alexander, Instructional Learning Assistant

Scott provides technical support for CTools and other programs for online and on campus faculty, staff, and students and provides training in the use of CTools and other applications. He also assists faculty and staff with creation of online materials. Scott received his BBA in Information Technology Management from University of Michigan-Dearborn and is working toward a Masters of Science Degree in Information Systems.

Elizabeth Fomin, Program Manager

Elizabeth's responsibilities include tracking outcomes in online learning, assessing program practices and emerging technology. She also fosters collaborative relationships across disciplines and campuses, serves on committees, organizes and provides faculty development workshops, manages CASL Online staff and teaches courses in Communication and Web Technology. Elizabeth holds a BFA in Graphic Design and an MLS in Technology Management from Eastern Michigan University.

Margaret Stephens, Proctor

Margaret provides proctoring services for CASL Online classes. In addition to proctoring, she is responsible for student inquiries and office support.

Our Mission

The mission of the University of Michigan-Dearborn’s CASL Online department is to provide accessible, effective learning opportunities as a dynamic augmentation to the traditional classroom environment.

Assist in enhancing the teaching and learning process through the use of educational technologies

Provide support and training of faculty, staff and students in the use of online learning methods

Assist faculty in the development and delivery of online courses

Supporting a University of Michigan Three-Campus Vision


Collaborates with the Ann Arbor campus to improve the quality of online learning for all campuses

Shares access to online courses and programs with UM-Flint and UM-Dearborn

Researches new technology and techniques for providing high-quality online education
