Admission/Requirements

Each year 20 new SOAR students are admitted to the university for the fall term.  Admission is selective. To be considered for admission, applicants must:

  • Meet basic requirements of a high school diploma, minimum 460 GED score, or 2.4 transferrable college credit GPA
  • Fill out the CASL SOAR application form
  • Submit a letter of recommendation from their referring agency/organization
  • Send official transcripts from: colleges, high school or GED testing center
  • Complete the FAFSA
  • Have no student loans in default
  • Attend an official intake interview with the SOAR Director
  • Be pursuing a first bachelor’s degree
  • Understand that completing the application process does not guarantee admission

SOAR Student Requirements

Before classes begin in the fall, newly admitted SOAR students:

  • Take the Math and English placement exams prior to registering for classes
  • Meet one-on-one with an assigned advisor prior to registering for classes
  • Attend a specialized SOAR orientation
  • Know they are limited to seven credits per semester their first full academic year
