Microbiology Requirements
Minimum 29 credit hours in Microbiology or Biological Sciences
A. Must complete the following courses:
Note: Students should begin the Chemistry sequence before electing any course numbered 300 or above.
- Micro/Biol 385, Microbiology (4)
- Micro/Biol 406, Microbial Genetics (4)
- Micro/Biol 440, Microbial Genetics and Physiology Lab (1)
- Micro/Biol 485, Physiology of Microorganisms (4)
B. Must also complete at least one credit hour from the following courses:
- Micro/Biol 495, Off-campus Research in Microbiology (1-3)
- Micro/Biol 497, Seminar in Microbiology (1)
- Micro/Biol 498, Independent Study in Microbiology (1-3)
- Micro/Biol 499, Laboratory in Microbiology Research* (1-3)
No more than a total of 6 credit hours combined in MICRO 495, 498, and 499 may be applied toward the 120 hours required for graduation
Must complete one of the following organismal/environmental courses:
- Micro/Biol 309, Introduction to Mycology (4)
- Micro/Biol 405, Applied Environmental Microbiology (4)
- Micro/Biol 390, Topics in Microbiology (1-6)
C. Must complete 12 credit hours from the following list, of which at least 4 credit hours must be from Microbiology courses. All 400-level Microbiology courses have MICRO 385 as a prerequisite. Students may apply no more than 36 credit hours from groups A, B and C toward the 120 credit hours required for graduation.
