Dean Jerold Hale will be leaving his position in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters to assume the deanship of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the College of Charleston in South Carolina.
According to the announcement from Provost Kate Davy, “Jerry’s decision to leave UM-Dearborn was not an easy one, but he made it with his family’s best interests at heart. Jerry is a strong believer in UM-Dearborn’s metropolitan vision and appreciates the impact our university has on the lives of students and residents of southeastern Michigan. Jerry, along with CASL’s associate deans, chairs, directors, faculty, and staff members, championed a number of efforts that made an impact in our region and created enriching academic experiences for students. The following examples represent only a few of these accomplishments: making substantial upgrades to instructional technology in the college; creating the CASL Undergraduate Research Showcase; increasing funds for the Math Learning Center; establishing the Geospatial Analysis and Mapping Laboratory; garnering community partnerships for research symposia and speaker series; and increasing the size of the CASL faculty.”
Dean Hale will continue to lead CASL in the coming months and he is eager to complete a number of college initiatives before the end of June. His last day at UM-Dearborn will be June 30, 2013.
