CASL Online

Before Your Class Begins

You should be sure these things are done...

  • Check our Technical Requirements:  Be sure that you have the required technology.
  • Align Email Address:  If this is your first online course, be sure that your email address and CTools are aligned, following these directions, so that you will receive email from the instructor.
  • Login to CTools and check your course site for syllabus, test dates, announcements, and any other pertinent information. If you are having difficulty logging in to your CTools site, try the CTools Help page.
  • Order Your Textbooks: You can order textbooks online through the UMD Bookstore or visit the bookstore on campus to purchase textbooks. Any materials not available from the bookstore will either be available through the CTools site or through other means specified in the syllabus for the course.
  • Go to Orientation: Check for any orientation that is planned. They will be listed on our Orientation page. Some courses have mandatory orientations, orientations that are suggested and others have no orientation.
  • Test Proctors:
    •  If you are a distant student, 50 miles or more away from the campus, you will need to find a proctor, and notify CASL Online. This needs to be set up in advance of any testing, preferably at the beginning of the term. For more information, contact the CASL Online office.
    • If you are an on-campus student, you may be taking examinations with the instructor or in the CASL Online Office. If you take tests in the CASL Online office please read the testing rules
