The discipline of Music is made up of three programs: Music History (MHIS), Applied Music (MAPP), and Music Theory (MAPP). These programs share an interest in the music-making of the entire world and a fascination for why human beings, societies, and subcultures make the kinds of music they do. A minor or area of focus in Music History consists of 12 hours of upper-division credit in music history, music theory or applied music courses, including piano and guitar instruction; vocal ensemble singing; introductory music theory; and cross-disciplinary courses in Film and African-American studies.
