Governing Board & Membership
Governing Board
All alumni of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters are members of the Alumni Affiliate. The Alumni Affiliate is governed by a 16 to 19-member board comprised of no less than nine and no more than 12 elected and seven appointed members. The appointed members are chosen by the chairs of each of the College’s six academic units: Behavioral Sciences, Social Sciences; Language, Culture & Communication; Literature, Philosophy & the Arts; Natural Sciences, and Mathematics & Statistics; and Associate Dean for College-wide Programs and Graduate Programs. Elected members serve staggered three-year terms.
If you are interested in nominating yourself or another CASL alum to serve on the Governing Board, please fill out the Nomination Questionnaire.
Committee Structure
The CASL Alumni Affiliate has three standing committees, Events Planning Committee, Student Recruitment, Retention, Advisement and Placement; and Membership and Communications.
The Events Planning Committee's main goal is to organize volunteers to help plan and carry out social, educational, and other events of interest to CASL's alumni body. Committee membership changes for each event, which includes both board members and other interested alumni.
The Student Recruitment, Retention, Advisement and Placement Committee's priority is to recruit and retain the best students possible for CASL. Committee members work closely with current CASL students in the areas of job placement and graduate school admissions. The committee also acts as a resource for CASL's renowned Cooperative Education and Political Internship programs.
The Membership and Communications Committee serves as a liaison between the Affiliate's governing board and membership by communicating activities and decisions of the board through University and College Publications. This committee also acts as a liaison with other alumni groups within CASL and works to recruit new active members for committee assignments. The committee actively seeks new active members from each of the five academic units to assure representation of the College's diverse offerings.
In addition to the three standing committees, the Affiliate's governing board regularly appoints ad hoc committees to help plan special events.
