LIBS 124: Wireless World
MW 3:00-4:15, paired with Comp section 013 (Myers), MW 1:05-2:20
The central focus of this course is to engage students in critical reflection on the way their practices of reading, writing, and research are shaped by recent developments in technology, particularly Internet-based systems commonly called “Web 2.0” applications. Students will be asked to analyze (and in some cases, engage in) literacy practices in blogs, social networking systems (such as MySpace and FaceBook), and wikis. Students will compare current available technologies with earlier manifestations, including the Internet of a decade ago. The history of book publishing, journalism, telecommunications, highways, and encyclopedias will provide occasions for comparative analysis.
Randy Woodland is Associate Professor of Composition.
