Course work
Students accepted into WILL are required to complete 4 courses of Women's Studies and an internship or co-op experience in a field of their choice. There are two required Women’s Studies courses for the program: Introduction to Women’s Studies and the Women, Leadership and Social Change seminar. Students may choose from a wide variety of courses, such as Women in Islam, Gender and Globalization, Family Violence, Women in American History, Gender Roles, Women and the Renaissance, Voices of Black Women in Literature, Music and Film and Body, Image and Culture. Co-curricular activities
WILL student are required to spend a minimum of 15 hours per semester engaged in co-curricular activities, such as attending WILL talks, engaging in community service or planning a program or activity. In past semesters, WILL programming has included the following:
- Mentoring of students at Phoenix Middle School
- Leadership workshops for High school students
- Book, blanket and clothing drives for women and families in need
- co-production of the Vagina Monologues which raised over $2000 for local battered women’s shelters
- WILL “Success Stories” night
- Serving as mentors in classes at Scott Correctional facility
- student mentors for CASL Women on the Move event and program.
- Workshop by Dr. Maria Cotera, “Keepin’ it real! Being an ally to young Latinas”
- Service at food banks and homeless shelters
